Parti Eurovision!

Eurovision is coming!!! On Saturday 14th May, 25 countries from across Europe will compete in the Eurovision Song Contest, the biggest television event in Europe and, debatably, the second biggest in the world. Tonight (May 12th) is the second semi-final which I am, of course, looking forward to! Saturday night will basically be full of food, drinks, flags, games, glow sticks and even a little bit of a dress-up and for the occasion I have made a 23-track playlist of pure Eurovision tracks. The tracks contribute to a party atmosphere and so there is a variety of countries, winners, languages but all can either be sang along to or danced to - maybe even both?! 2011 songs have not been included because they'd lessen the stage presence of the actual performances on the night - which is a shame because there are some great songs this year!

Here is my Eurovision 2011 playlist:
1. ABBA - Waterloo (Sweden, 1974)
2. Alexander Rybak - Fairytale (Norway, 2009)
3. Ani Lorak - Shady Lady (Ukraine, 2008)
4. Arash & Aysel - Always (Azerbaijan, 2009)
5. Bucks Fizz - Making Your Mind Up (UK, 1981)
6. Dima Bilan - Believe (Russia, 2008)
7. Dima Bilan - Never Let You Go (Russia, 2006)
8. Eurobandið - This is My Life (Iceland, 2008)
9. Gina G - Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit (UK, 1996)
10. Hadise - Düm Tek Tek (Turkey, 2009)
11. Jessy Matador - Allez Olla Olé (France, 2010)
12. Kalomira - Secret Combination (Greece, 2008)
13. Katrina & The Waves - Love Shine A Light (UK, 1997)
14. Lena - Satellite (Germany, 2010)
15. Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah (Finland, 2006)
16. Manga - We Could Be the Same (Turkey, 2010)
17. Milan Stankovic - Ovo je Balkan (Serbia, 2010)
18. Paula Seling & Ovi - Playing With Fire (Romania, 2010)
19. Ruslana - Wild Dances (Ukraine, 2004)
20. Scooch - Flying the Flag (For You) (UK, 2007)
21. Sunstroke Project ft. Olia Tira - Run Away (Moldova, 2010)
22. Svetlana Loboda - Be My Valentine (Anti-Crisis Girl) (Ukraine, 2009)
23. Verka Serduchka - Dancing Lasha Tumbai (Ukraine, 2007)

How about some trivia?
8 of these are winning songs.
Amazingly 4 of them are British, amazing because I usually dislike UK entries - tied with Ukraine whose entries I usually love.
Most of these songs are from the 2010 contest (5) closely followed by 4 from 2009 and another 4 from 2008.
19 of these songs are from the 00s onwards, specifically 2006 onwards, while only 4 are from before the 00s and all but one of those 4 are from the UK.

So as you can see there are some very modern Eurovision tunes along some unforgettable classics - good playlist? I think so :)
Roll on Saturday!!
Liam x
